Durham’s Premier Bike for Health Event

Sunday, June 2 was the first ever Bike for Health Event and its riders sped past the finish line to surpass their goal and raised over $363,000 for the Hospitals of Lakeridge Health! This collaborative cycling event between all the foundations of Lakeridge Health – Port Perry Hospital Foundation, Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation, Lakeridge Health Hospital Foundation, and Bowmanville Hospital Foundation – will fund projects and state-of-the-art equipment at each of the hospitals making an incredible impact on local health care throughout Durham.

Lakeridge Health CEO Cynthia Davis, and numerous Port Perry Hospital Foundation volunteers and supporters were among the 250 riders leaving Ajax Downs for the ride that took them through the beautiful, yet challenging terrain of Durham Region in support of local health care. Presenting Sponsor Elexicon, alongside key partners RBC and The Regional Municipality of Durham, and local sponsors like Gus Brown helped elevate the event, making it a must-attend for riders of all levels.

The inaugural RBC Bike for Health Hero Award which recognizes an inspirational rider or family who are pedaling with purpose, this year honoured Stephanie Lane and her father-in-law Dan Lane who rode in memory of husband and son James Lane. See their inspiring story on YouTube below.

Thank you to all the riders, volunteers, photographers, and sponsors who helped bring this event to life.  Riders could choose to ride for all of the hospitals or specifically ride for their local site. Funds raised from Bike for Health will support Port Perry Hospital Foundation, Ajax Pickering Hospital Foundation, Bowmanville Hospital Foundation and Lakeridge Health Foundation.

We look forward to setting next year’s Bike for Health date soon and hope to see you there!
