Give this Holiday Season – a request from an Emergency Physician
What I’ve seen over my years of caring for patients at Port Perry Hospital is the incredible difference your donations make ensuring our medical teams have the tools we need to care for you and your family.
I’m Dr. Merrilee Brown, and along with being a family physician, I’ve worked 27 years at Port Perry Hospital. I’ve cared for patients at all stages of life and I’m currently the Deputy Chief of Emergency.
Services within our hospital are in need of your continued support. Keeping medical equipment updated and in the hands of our medical team improves outcomes. It even saves lives. I see the difference your support makes.
I’m writing to ask for your help this holiday season. Will you lend your support? You will be helping to provide the very best patient care right here in our community.
Here’s just some of the urgent medical equipment we need right now:
- A new and updated mechanical ventilator at $31,200 that will help keep patients safe in
life threatening circumstances that require them to be transferred to another hospital. - Photo-therapy Bili-blankets at $16,500 each which will allow new moms to continue
treatment for their jaundiced baby while holding or even nursing them. - New wheelchairs at a total of $2,500 to expand and replace our tired and failing fleet
because when a wheelchair is needed, it needs to be reliable and available. - Motorized ceiling lift tracks at $6,400 each, helping staff to lift and care for some of our
most vulnerable patients safely and compassionately.
Without donor support, these items and other high priorities at Port Perry Hospital simply won’t be possible.
It may be surprising, but our hospital does not receive government funding to cover much of the medical equipment required. Its up to Port Perry Hospital Foundation and supporters like you and me to make sure we have the tools we need.
With our hospital busier than ever, having tools that are easy to use, reliable and close at hand means less time for patients waiting to be seen. And keeping well equipped makes us a centre where physician and other professionals want to work.

Sincerely,
Dr. Merrilee Brown
