Port Perry Hospital to Reopen September 5
Recent Upgrades Include Enhancements to the Emergency Department and Diagnostic Imaging
Lakeridge Health today announced that Port Perry Hospital will begin to deliver care and treatment to patients the morning of September 5, 2018. A fire last August damaged the hospital’s mechanical and electrical systems, forcing a temporary closure.
Over the past year, a number of upgrades have been made to the hospital, including:
- Restoration of mechanical and electrical infrastructure and sections of the hospital damaged by fire;
- Mechanical and electrical room upgrades, including the installation of two new generators;
- Improvements to many patient care areas, including the New Life Centre;
- The installation of new flooring in the Emergency Department and Diagnostic Imaging, where patients visit for x-rays and ultrasound; and
- Upgraded exterior brick work to modernize the building’s facade.
“We are grateful for the unwavering support of north Durham residents, the Port Perry Hospital Foundation and Auxiliary, the Medical Associates of Port Perry, and our community partners throughout the past year,” said Matthew Anderson, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health. “With more than 14,000 Emergency Department visits, more than 250 births, more than 13,500 diagnostic exams and approximately 3,375 surgeries per year, this hospital is vital to the community and to the Lakeridge Health system. We are excited to reopen Port Perry Hospital and resume local delivery of much-needed acute care services to the community.”
Restoration and construction are expected to be complete by early July. After all medical equipment has been cleaned, sterilized and recertified, the hospital will be ready for its official reopening on September 5.

Statement of Commitment from Lakeridge Health
On August 25, 2017, the Port Perry hospital sustained damage from a fire that started during roofing construction. There has since been a suspension of services on site while we work to make the necessary repairs.
We understand that there has been concern from residents who use the Port Perry hospital and we wanted to take this opportunity to assure community members that we understand their frustrations and are working to get the hospital operational again as soon as possible. Indeed, any assertion to the contrary is simply wrong.
We realize the importance of delivering safe, local quality care to the Port Perry community and regret any inconveniences this has caused our patients, our staff, our community healthcare partners, and the community at large. We are committed to keeping the local community informed as the project progresses and we thank you in advance for your ongoing patience and understanding.
If members of the community have any questions they can reach us directly at PortPerryQuestions@lakeridgehealth.on.ca or call the Port Perry Hotline at 1-833-681-9840.
